You didn't say it was from torque, but somebody did, and that statement
has been wandering around the web in company with that photo. Just
firing wildly here. I don't know when the photo was taken, but I saw
somewhere or other that it is from an earlier time. Hardly anything
about this accident is what a serious journalist would call "reliably
sourced."

I would believe tab flutter. It could have been triggered by turbulence
or maybe its time had just come. Note however that the tab separation
did not occur until the pitch-up had already begun; the TV frame that
shows the tab breaking away is looking at the top of the airplane. If
the tab fluttered, the actuator link might be the first to go.
