Hi PaulI am sending you some photos of the shaft with 427c.i. engine
bushing and i will keep using the original planet housing with some
modifications and hold it with 6 of 12 mmx45mm shoulder bolts but the
diameter have to be grind of .052" to meet the small gear needles beering
i,dia, and .375"dia 6 pins from roller bearing, the shaft will be drilled
between the 1st and second bearing bushing at .250"dia straight true for the
prop governor oil pressure passage way.The insert cup have a tap hole for a
set screw to be plugged when using the oil pressure constant speed and this
cup will be pressure fitted.I am very close to start the machining on the
housing with all those oil passageway,i did have 2 casting set in case i do
have to make some changes at the assembly and then use for the second
engine. It takes time and money but i will come to the end of this drive
project.

Jean, If I am understanding this correctly, you are attaching the
planetary carrier with 6 shoulder bolts clamping and driving the propshaft
and an additional 6 dowel pins .375 diameter. With this arrangement one
might drill the 6 dowel pin holes which are between the planetary axles
larger for the attaching bolts and then use hollow pinnion axles for the
dowel pins. I posted a source yesterday for the hollow dowell pins which are
hardened to 62-64 rockwell and have softer outboard ends for staking them to
the planetary carrier. I suspect that the shoulder bolts are made in a
screw machine from a long piece of bar stock and machined then cut off with
a parting tool. The head would then be upset or broached for the allen
wrench. This will result in a part that is difficult to chuck up and grind
down smaller and keep the concentricity with the threaded portion. Useing
off the shelf hollow pinion axles would provide a concentric part with the
required hardness and surface finish. These pins are also available with a
snap ring retainer on one or both ends in case you want to be able to
inspect/change out the needle bearings occasionally.
I am leaning towards an SAE-2 prop flange with the six .625 drive
bushings and the bolt diameter modification increased from 3/8" to
1/2". This seems to offer the best assortment of new and used props to
choose from . Since you seem to be building a minimum weight PSRU are you
going for the slightly smaller/lighter bolt circle of a SAE-1 prop flange.
