Bad news.  Today on the radio and  in the news was a report that
Mazda is stopping production of the rotary engine.

Strange news.  About four months ago they were saying the new 16X
fuel mileage was exceeding their piston engine line-up.

What gives?  You can put me back on the list now.

Not really bad news. They stopped selling RX7's in the US back in
1995 until 2004. It did not affect us as there are at least
a couple of hundred thousand RX8 engines out there somewhere.
Nobody is buying new cars in the states and Mazda is just trying
to stay alive. This won't change until we vote the crazy idiot
out of office. Perhaps they should only stay in office 2 years
instead of 4.

I wonder if Mazda could be persuaded to produce the new engine in limited
numbers to sell as a crate motor for marine or other uses?

Maybe their stopping production on the Rx 8 rotary engine and mean to
continue R&D on
the 16x for future placement in a production vehicle.Mazda is committed to
the rotary but
to continue to produce the Rx-8 engine when your major markets have dryyed
up for the
RX-8 , is to expensive to do in this economy ; especially if
you're entending to replace it
in a couple of years.

Hello Paul,
Well it must be time to pick and purchase an engine before people
start to "treat them like gold" and jack-up the prices. So the million
dollar question is, which engine series do you recommend as a good
starting base, which ones have the best bearing and seal arrangements.
I intend going for the RB alloy plates and a p-port (haven't decided on
turbo or n/a as yet), so it comes down to the e-shaft, stationary gears,.
i also intend using the 3.17 psru gearing so revs will be over 8500rpm so
all necesary mods will have to be made to safely acheive this target reliably.

 Perhaps I would be better off just buying the components off the
shelf and putting one together that way, any advice will be gratefully
received.

That will happen. I have three 13B's one RX8 and one 3 rotor already.
Plus parts for another 3 or 4 13B's.

The 3 rotor has gone up in price by a factor of 4 since
I bought it. At this point in time I would not sell it for less
than $20,000. That is just me. One can find them cheaper than that.
