Paul
are you sure you want to use 7075??
I have a great source for 7050 with certs cheap cheap cheap it's all
boeing
scrap.
maore than you will ever use. My machine is not being used at the moment.
I can machine the plates and squares
if you send me the drawings.
Tony
I'll get back to you when I get back from check rides Tony.
What dwg format can you use. We might try a built in planet
carrier on the 4 inch aluminum shaft.
Perhaps Ed needs something right at the moment?
Paul Lamar
Hi Tony,
I could use Al 7050 for a "good" low price.
dia 4" ~ 1 ft lg
dia 3.5" ~ 1 ft lg
dia 3" ~ 1 ft lg
dia 1.5" ~ 2 ft lg
Could you quote a price? Do you also have rectangular shapes?
Rolf, (you may contact me directly, if you wish:
rolf@ropexgroup.com)
I hav'nt had a chance to look at the specs on it yet, If it is similar to
6061 or better, then it should make good housing material. We need 6 to
6.5"
OD. I think $10 bucks an inch is cheap for a 4.25" dia 7075 T73 bar stock.
So I'll be delighted to get something for about the same price for the
housing.
Ed Carver
Ok Tony, very interested after reading up on it a bit. I need a good 6" to
6.5" round bar 11 or 22" length. Or if there are some tube rems, then same
OD as above, with 1" or greater wall thickness.
If you and Paul agree to create some of the prop plates, I'm interested.
And actually, I should expand on the above, if you can provide 4 or 4.25"
7050-t7451 round bar, I'm interested in 14"
Thanks!
Ed Carver
The stresses are so low it matters not.
If Tony has a good price I am in for half.
Paul Lamar
I have the 4.25" 7075 T73 in my garage now. I purchased 28" for a cost of
$205. The price went down considerably when I went past two feet.
I received a "not available" quote from Argyle on the housing material,
they
have nothing in tube or pipe in 6 to 6.5". Lets see what Tony has. We are
likely going to have to use round bar.
Ed Carver
That is OK. We have a guy with a big lathe to hog it out.
If that get too expensive we can make a casting.
Paul Lamar
I don't know that it might be possible to take a 6 to 7" round bar, cut it
down to our length, then laser a circle through it to our preferred ID,
leaving us with a usable core piece.
Ed Carver
I don't know about that. I have never heard of laser cutting such a thick
piece. Or water jet for that matter. It might be possible I guess. So too EDM.
What is Tony asking per pound?
Paul Lamar
P,
You may want to check out "trepanning".
Trepanning is a machining method of producing larger diameter, deep
drilled holes which can be more cost effective than typical gundrilling
techniques. It is best described as core drilling. Unlike gundrilling,
Trepanning leaves a core from the center of the bar instead of turning it
all into chips.
One vendor, easily found with a Google search is:
Trepanning Specialties, Inc.
16201 Illinois Ave., Paramount, CA 90723
Voice (562) 633-8110 . FAX (562) 633-0141
More than likely... many others.
