Paul, was sent an email about the Open Fuel Standard Act, basically they
outline how to get gasoline prices back to $2 a gallon, by requiring all
new
cars to run equally well on gasoline, ethanol, and most importantly --
methanol.  Methanol is made from coal, and we have the worlds largest
supply
of coal, estimated at 1,000 years supply, along with many of our closest
allies.

Question is has any work been done running Methanol in a Wankel Engine?  As
stated they say that methanol has 1/2 the energy per gallon of gasoline,
but
is 105 octane, they imply that is can burn more efficiently.

The Open Fuel Standard Act plan is intended to break the OPEC Oil Cartel's
hold on world wide energy.  Sounds good basically, and if it works to
reduce
exhaust emissions that would place the Rotary Engine back in the race,
right???

Thank God the Canadians have our back, and we have a similar supply of coal
as they have oil.  Matter of fact with friends like Canada, Australia, and
Britain we could take on the world, hmmm didn't we do that twice? Ha Ha...

Newt does come up with some good concepts often, but Egypt has changed
camps, this time its up to debate where the rest of the Middle East will
land.  Its all been going Iran's way for months now.

Anyway I like the idea of having the Open Fuel Standard bill (H.R. 1687) on
the table, I worked the oilfield in Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota where
you saw the coal seams in the hillsides.

Interesting that South Africa has produced gasoline since 1970's

using two large plants producing 150,000 barrels per day of crude oil from
120,000 tons of coal.

Two of my friends (brothers) in college long ago came back to college in
their sophomore year driving some fine muscle cars, I asked them where they
got the money for them, laugh, their father found a mile wide, half a mile
deep coal mine across their ranch. To this day you find coal trains crossing
Wyoming miles long.

Methanol is what Germany ran on in World War II, so using it as an additive
to gasoline would help lower the corn grain market prices, and work to lower
OPEC's influence upon energy pricing.
