Some uC and Linux stacks only support one attached USB device.  The
protocol really
messes up with a USB Hub in there, so when running a LeCROY CATC trace
tool it is
pretty clear they Host Operating System just doesn't handle a Hub
Correctly.   Had one
box that would fail 1 in 100 tries, which wasn't acceptable. Once we
spent time seeing
what it was doing, we were amazed it even worked the other 99 times.

While the LeCroy tool is great, at $25K out of most budgets.  The Total
Phase "Beagle 480"
runs around $1K, and is still helpful in understanding what is going on
(just takes longer
to understand, hence why I use the CATC as I never have enough hours in
the day).

Ubuntu 9.04 and up I suppose supports at least 3 built in to my mother board.
