...I am now using Ubun 10.04 and I like it better than Fedora 7 but

I am running 10.04 on two machines. I have the 'update' turned off and
have never had any bugs pop up or seen any strange behavior that has
tempted me to run an update.

Turning off the update notifications does not make it "ain't broke" any
more than disconnecting the idiot light on the alternator circuit makes
a broken alternator "ain't broke"en.

If your machine has an internet connection, and it's not up to date,
then you are volunteering to support the spam, bot net, and mal-ware
distributors who are more than happy to take advantage of you, usually
without your knowledge.

All software has bugs in it.  The longer that software has been out in
the open the more vulnerabilities in that software are known.  If you
are running F7 your distribution is five years old and has been
unsupported for three years.

Ubun 10.04 is still being actively supported so you're good to go there.
Don't neglect the security updates.  You can skip the bug fixes and
feature improvement updates if you want but don't skip the security updates.

This applies to you poor Windows and Mac users as well.  Keep your
system up to date.

Remember the 80/20 principle?  80% of the trouble is caused by 20% of
the people.  80% of the work is done by 20% of the people.  80% of the
spam/mal-ware could be eliminated if people would keep their systems up
to date.
