When under compression, the plug requires twice the voltage to fire.
Briggs & Stratton air gaps cannot be made too wide to prevent spark
providing the coil is healthy and the engine is spun over fast
enough. A wide air gap, say .030" will ever so slightly retard the
ignition timing as the magnetic field takes longer to build within
the coil windings.

Cut the ground electrode off even with the centerline of the center
electrode. Leave a sharp edge and bent the ground down to get a .015" gap. Now
anyone can start it.
Years ago we put a normally closed switch in line with the points on racing
Carts. About half way down the straightaway you push the button and open
the points circuit. Now the magnets a moving past the coil so fast, there is
no need for a primary winding. The secondary fires the plug directly. Need
to be above 15,000 RPM. Called a Maverick ignition system. It also added
advance. Add Nitro until the head melts, then back off just a bit.
