Not really. I don't recall building that. Of course it was about 50
years ago. Most of my wings had streamline tubing struts and those look
like round tube. Also what is that thing on top near the trailing edge?
It also looks adjustable or movable with some sort of throttle cable
arrangement. Perhaps your mechanic fabricated some or all of it. I am
sure, as director of the Peace Core at the time, you had no time to make
race car parts. I am guessing :)

Is it still in the Smithsonian? Perhaps next time I am in D.C. I can get
a look at it with your permission. Last time I was in the Smithsonian I
looked for it but did not see it. Perhaps it is down in the basement
someplace. The second picture is the only wing I recall making for a
Form B. Most were built for Formula A or Formula 5000. Ron Grable on
here drove one of them.

Was your wing fiberglass or aluminum? Most of my later wings were
aluminum such as the Chris Amon 612 Can Am Ferrari wing. Last 2
pictures.

Paul: it was built from aluminum and that "thing on top" is a trim tab
actuated by a solenoid controlled from the cockpit.  The solenoid was
inside the wing: when triggered, it would deflect the wing into the
"down" position for braking and cornering.  You can see the wire leading
up the left strut in the picture.  If it failed (which it never did), it
would automatically revert to the "up" or straightaway position.

You must have forgotten but you built it specifically for the BT29
struts, brought it to Washington and showed me how to install in a
Georgetown garage belonging to Mike Hayman (another FB owner).  It won a
lot of races and set a lot of records before SCCA foolishly followed the
FIA's knee-jerk reaction and banned it.  Somewhere in my files I will
find the original paperwork and send it to you; perhaps that will
refresh your memory.

Anyway, it was a genius design, genius execution and a huge performance
advantage I was delighted to have.

Well maybe I did build it as I used the same idea on the Chris Amon car.
I was going through a divorce around then so perhaps that affected my brain :)
That ex wife/lawyer later became secreatary treasurer of Litton Industries in Beverly
Hills :)

Did it over steer when you flattened the wing? You probably set it up for understeer
when the wing was flat so it under steered more when the wing was down. Not the
fastest away around the corner but it feels better. On the Chaparral 2F there was a
device in the nose I designed that reduced the nose down force when the wing was
flat. I never had time on the Amon car to implement that feature. Chris said he tried
flattening the wing at 180 MPH one time and it scared him so bad he never did it
again :) Off to Hong Kong early tomorrow by way of Narita.
