The SpeedSource p-port 3 rotor RX8 #70 dominated the first three hours and won
$50,000 at the half way point for being in the lead. It led the next two hours and
then something weird happened. It suddenly appeared in sixth.
I had a friend at the race that was in position to know what really happened.
I will just quote his email to me here.
Paul Lamar
"Yes, SpeedSource had an OUTSTANDING day again. Flawless pit stops. Two drivers
only versus most other teams with three drivers.
The Officials at Grand Am made GRAVE mistakes on the last two yellow flags and
1) allowed some of the leaders (while cars were cycling through pit stops) to pass
the pace car and gain a ton of track position and also to get fuel, allowing them to
go to the end.
And
2) causing a huge wreck on the front straight because they held waving the green
flag so long (damaging another Mazda in the process and sending that driver to the
hospital with exhaust fume inhalation due to the rear of his car being open).
Frustrating to have one snatched away from Mazda like that..."
