Hello Jeff,
   I have acquired a Velocity STD RG kit.  The airframe is together
however the previous owner sold the Lycoming engine and mount.  I see
that you offer for sale a mount plate for the Mazda 13b rotary.  My
question is: will this mount plate adapt the 13b to the Lycoming engine
mount?  If not with what mount does it work?  With a bare fire wall and
the 5 mount points I wanted to send you an e-mail.  I am very interested
in putting a 13b in my Velocity aircraft can you give me some more info
on your mounting plate?

Hello Paul,
  I have seen these web pages before.  Notice that with the cozy the firewall appears
to be "L" shaped and with a Velocity the firewall is flat.  I am curious about the
front of the engine supporting member.  I see that by your  calculations the load is
minimal once the rear of the engine at the re-drive has been stabilized however your
cadd model shows a member coming down to the center of the front of the engine.  How
/ where does this mount to the 13b motor and what interference issues if any are
there for the belt and pulleys that are on the front of the motor as well.  I agree
that the plate made by Jeff is of a superior design concept which is exactly why I
contacted him to begin with.  I see that others have used an oil pan adapter type
mount for the Velocity...  In my opinion a bad engineering idea to begin with.
  So here I am.  Examples of Rotary powered Velocities do exist but do any have the
adapter plate made by Jeff?  If not what do we / I have to do to bring this to life??

My philosophy on brackets is; you over design them because they are small and it does
not add significant weight.

That was the front motor mount in the case of a pusher. There are several ways of
doing that. Here are a few. We have settled on welding the front mount to an oil pan
either steel or aluminum. If you make a custom pan you can add oil capacity which
helps oil cooling on climb out. My 230 HP O-470 has 12 quarts. Most cars have only 5.

A second way of doing it was invented years ago by Power Sport. That is a horizontal
strut mounted to the top of the engine. If you are interested in that I will send
pictures and drawings. Both work equally well except for low cowls. There is a bit of
a clearance issue with the top strut under the wrap over intake manifolds.

As far as I know no pusher has Jeff's plate yet but it has only been available for
about a year. Here is a crashed BD4 with an early  version milled by someone else. It
survived rather  well compared to the wrinkle in the fuse :) I have now gone up on
the diameter of the lower MM tubes to make it stronger for crashing :).

Jerry, the machine work, and engineering of Jeff's mount plate is first rate. You
will not be disappointed.

Has anyone found a new supplier for the vibration damping rod ends? McMaster-Carr no
longer carries them.
