Neils First Smoke 14 Apr 12
Jack
Did you have a question about this Jack.
Herb was on here when Neil talked about his first smoke.
Paul Lamar
no. I thought Herb wanted to see the Glastar, but I guess it is pics
of the engine on barnstormer. while i'm here, Neil made his own
cowling. was it to fit the rx8 mounted on your custom mount design?
something like that would be perfect for me, does Neil have a mold?
The fellow with the test setup is asking 8K or BO for the engine, redux
and cooling equipment. that one has the P intake set-up. In Texas.
seems as tho an abundance of kit builders are out thata way.
Jack
Jack,
Yep I was silly enough to do the lot and have made a cowling mold
to fit the glastar with the thrust line where the original was. Just
depends if it is what you want. At the moment it appears that the heat
exchanger opening may be too large, time will tell, but it is much easier to
close it up then try and make it bigger. Neil. My engine mount was based
on Paul's design. I still have most of the jig that I used to make it also.
Can send measurements. Neil.
I made this perforated angle steel jig once. It was a lot of work to make the just
the jig.
The easiest thing is get a steel tube about three to six inches in
diameter and with a length from the firewall to the motor plate. Weld a 10" by 10"
square steel flange on both ends. Bolt it the firewall or thick particle board in the
right place and one of Jeff's motor plates on the forward end. That's it. Jig is done.
If you want down or side thrust use a protractor and shim it with washers.
I have a guy in Ventura CA that will tig weld a MM for you. I am here and can watch
over it for free. http://doritefab.com/ I have one of Jeff's plates that he can use
to make the jig.
