Speaking on the subject of lawyers, and not on Obama... (the content
of that email being virtually impossible to prove or disprove)
I'm of the opinion that all the lawyers on Capitol Hill are a huge
part of our problem. I'd much rather have a congress and oval office
full of average joes with some common sense and basic intelligence
than the band of lawyers turned career politicians that dominate it
these days. Let the supreme court deal with the lawyering. What we
need are people making the laws that understand what the country needs
and what the intent of the constitution, not people who dissect the
'interstate commerce' clause to the point where mean the Feds can
create laws about everything imaginable.
Establish term limits for the Senate at minimum. George Mason "nothing
is so essential to the preservation of a Republican government as a
periodic rotation." If not that, bring back State elected Senators.
That would at least remove one body of them from the influence of
popular vote (the mob). Cap their salary at the mean of the middle
class, and forget about full pay and benefits for the rest of their
lives. "Serving" our country in a political capacity should be just
that... a service. It should not carry these plush rewards. If we
could do these things, we'd virtually eliminate career politicians and
a lot of corruption.

I'm with you Josh. Here's my solution but would take Consti Amend and it
would never pass. Can't vote till 35 yrs old. One 6 year staggered term
limit for Senators. One 4 year term limit for Congressmen staggered
(unless you only have one Congressman like Wyo) . If the can get
reelected, (ie two term limits), you still have the same problem--actions
determined by reelection campaigns even if only once. Have to take and
pass test on government organization and brief test on NON-KEYNESIAN
economics in order to vote (you could still vote Voodoo econ if you choose.
But, have to understand REAL ECON). We don't need more idiots running the
show. Finally, some foolproof voter id (fingerprints?? Big Brother has all
of ours by now anyway for one reason or another) that is only given when
you meet all above requirements. This will cut down on voter fraud.
All that should be easy to get passed, right:-)

Such an amendment is being discussed as a go-forward Item by non other
than Mark Levin and his Landmark Legal Foundation...
He mentioned this on his show a few weeks back.

it would be all encompassing, I hope I have this as accurate as possible....
* 2 6 year terms for Senators ( term Limits)
* 6 2 year terms for the House (term Limits again)
* Term Limits FOR THE SUPREME COURT !
* 2/3rd's needed for tax increases ( and the budget's balance maybe tied
to GDP )
* Repeal the 17th Amendment and send the Senatorial Selection Process
back to the State Houses.

Yep, I am compelled to respond about what I know to be thoughts on lawyers that are
not thought out very well, IMAO. To blame lawyers for laws you do not like (or for
lawsuit abuse) is like blaming guns for murder or a spoon for making people fat.
Someone had to initiate the action. Lawyers are hired to represent their clients and
do their bidding. To transfer your frustration to the profession is not only unfair
and a gross generalization, it is just wrong. You may or may not know lawyers or
what they REALLY do but most are hard working folks that usually are trying to get
folks out of a mess that is NOT of lawyers making. Sure, there are some that make a
bad situation worse or seem to make unconscionable choices but like most stuff like
this, it is the exception that gets the attention. There are bad engineers that may
be a root cause of many deaths, but we do not usually condemn all engineers...hell,
there are men of God that rape little boys, but we do not tend to slam all clergy.
LAWyes are the ones that may tend to make the laws because that may be what they
know. In the same way that you may want doctors to be the ones to make medical
decisions, it stands to reason that lawyers work within law. To say that common
sense is needed is obvious, but I would think that when it is not it is not due to
being a lawyer, but someone who has succeeded in politics and is catering to special
interest and lobbyist (yep, a lot of lawyers there too....why is that? ...maybe cuz
they do it well, regardless of if you like the special interest they are fighting
for....however, maybe it is the exact special interest you like)
Yep, I am a lawyer. I practiced for ten years before I grabbed an opportunity to be a
cop. I like being lawyer and am proud of both being a lawyer and what it took to be
one but I always wanted to be a cop and am pleased I have the options to do both.
Oh, and btw, half of the founding fathers identified themselves as lawyers....and it
was there, IIRC, that the idea of the average persons serving the government, which,
btw, lawyers are too.
Finally, as this is difficult to properly discuss fairly online, my views are likely
very similar to yours.....maybe not. I am a Libertarian, I love my Republic, but now
fear and resent much of my government. I am fiscally
very conservative and socially tolerant....I really do not care who you kiss, but I
very much care about what you do with my....and your money. I think you should
consider NOT demonizing a profession which consist of many solid good individuals and
look to a less simple sound bite thought process
The mindless lawyer bashing should be beneath you, me thinks.
