Paul,
I had sort of an odd thought, and I'm not familiar enough with the
the 13b to reason it out. With a p-port engine, would it be
possible to flip the rotor housings backwards and have the engine
run in the opposite direction?
Josh
We have discussed this in the past and that is the first suggestion
that might work. The tension bolt pattern would not match up but if
you are building your own end housings that would not matter.
Paul Lamar
If you build your own end housings they could be designed so they are both
including the bell housing pattern. That way they could be just turned
around.
For twins with reverse props, one engine turned around and a change to the
PSRU if it has an internal oil pump. This way a dual supply of spare
engines
is eliminated.
Dale Davies
Dale, the front of the engine has the oil pump, the thrust bearing and a
smaller diameter shaft. Also the water pump drive occupies the exposed
shaft. It may be possible to swap the E-ahaft around and assemble a thrust
bearing mounted to the rear stationary gear with an oil retaining cover.
The water and oil pumps could be belt driven from the reversed
E-shaft. Then there is the requirement for a reverse rotation starter with
the flywheel on the opposite end. The bellhousing around the front housing
is workable. I have such a flange extension on the pattern for the front of
my rear engine to bolt it up to the front engine. However if you are
building end housings
anyway you can mirror your part while it is in the CAD program and add
material to drill the oil pump ports to match and the bolt bosses for the
water pump. The cooling would be reverse flow with the stock water pump.
Another approach would be to use a helical spur gear redrive with
idlers to reverse one prop. This unfortunately would offset the thrust
line which would increase cross sectional area in a nacile mounted twin.
With a two inch drive gear and six inch propshaft gear that would raise the
propshaft four inches.
