Took the  engine apart and found the previously mentioned holes in the
exhaust  port
wide open into the oil pan. Now I have to find a good way to close  them.
Anyone
having a good idea?

Take the stock shoulder bolts out of another rotor housing. Trim to length
and TIG the ends shut. Install. The stock length had them extend into the
port  liner about 3/16".
Or, check with Racing Beat to see if they have any solid aluminum bolts
left. Or, manufacture a pair on a lathe. Or turn an aluminum rod down to  fit
snug in the holes. Drive it in and TIG the end to the rotor housing.
There is no need to remove the liner. If you must, wire EDM is best. The
roll pins are in a blind hole. A carbide tipped drill has worked. Removing
the  aluminum in line with the pins works. But messy. You can weld to the roll
pin  with a AC stick filler rod and the shielding knocked off of the tip.
The liner  must be replaced when finished. The hole is way too big without
it. The header  flange will hold it in without the roll pins if you use a
gasket segment to  press on it. Daryl Drummond made up aluminum replacements for
the liner so he  could have the shape he wanted.

I don't see any shoulder bolts. Do you have a picture?

This where and how I think the exhaust gas is getting to the pan.

As I recall the EDM method is called a popper and it takes a special
EDM machine to do it.

Richard does not want to damage the rotor housing.

Here is a p1cture of the rotor and end  housing Richard is using.

Daryl Drummond is looking for the most and last HP he can get for racing purposes.
This is not the case for Richard. He would be happy with plus or minus 10.

Therefor I think he may be able to run without the Inconel or SS exhaust insert.

In theory the sudden gas expansion without the insert will cool the exhaust and maybe
quite it a bit when using a muffler. The noise will occur in the rotor housing
instead at the end of the exhaust pipe. Not of course when it is wide open :)
