Hello Paul,

I want to thank you for your support of reasoned thinking in the last
election, seems you and many of us can not keep the herd from going over
the cliff.

I have been sitting here trying to get my self back on track to thinking
about future aircraft using Wankel based Rotary Engines, and I just had a
question regarding Mistral Engines, which I believe is the only production
Wankel Rotary Engine approved for sale by FAA at this time.  Well my
question is, are these base engines based upon Mazada's engine spec's 13b
or such, or are they completely different in dimensions?

Question will the great supply of Mazda engine parts be applicable to use
on Mistral Engines if the original source goes out of business?

Thanks,

George F. Curtis

Mistral never achieved certification. The incentive in Switzerland is to continue on with R&D as long as possible because you get money from
the government during the gestation period without having to produce and cash flow. I suspect that is typical in socialist Europe. They milked it for about ten years.

If they really wanted to get it certified they could have done it in two years like Diamond Engines did with their A Class MB diesel AC engine.

All they needed to do is use an aircraft carb and magneto.
A stock Mazda rotary would pass the FAA 150 hour test with flying colors.

Instead they set the bar too high by including EFI. There is nothing more troublesome for the FAA than software :)
