All you guys building composite aircraft please scan the firewall building
instructions and send them to me. I sold my KIS cruiser kit
and the buyer got the KIS Cruiser builders manual.

Alex, this picture is the shock mount for the KIS Cruiser bolted to the
plywood sandwich KIS fire wall.

4 yards 50 inches wide from AC Spruce of carbon cloth 2 layers on each
side would cost $120. Much cheaper than just one laser cut steel tube :)

The hot tip is high compressive strength end grain balsa for core.

1/2 inch 24 by 48 is $33.

If you want something really bullet proof get the 3/4 inch  for $35 :)
The strength goes up with the cube or the 4th power of the thickness.
It is kind of dumb to design a composite airplane with out a sandwich
firewall.

Fair enough, agreed. I think they will probably change what they doing if you tell them a better way they should be
doing it. If it makes the design better then I think it should be done,

I have to learn to keep my mouth shut some times. :)

In your case it is easy to retrofit.

I think 3 layers of carbon on the out side of the core and one on the inside  as the inside will be helped by the
existing fiberglass.

It will surely strengthen it for crash purposes if God forbid that happens. Jim Hall nearly lost his legs in a race car
crash because the
structure was too weak for crashing.

It will strengthen the nose gear too. The weak link in nose gears is usually the fire wall. That is true in C182's.

Ok, sounds like a worthwhile mod so we'll do it for mine then, done deal,

I suspect after Team Tango see's it they will do something similar on
all the new kits. It will tend to distribute the load better from the center
top mount into the fuse skin just in front of the windshield. Actually all five motor mount loads will be distributed
better. Still a good idea to put a short stringer in there under the top fuse skin.

A good book on this is subject is Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures by Bruhn. Dick VanG keeps  one on his
bed side table:) If you walk into an AIAA meeting with this book they accuse you of being loaded for bear :)

This is a rare book that sells for more used than new. See the attached  Amazon jpg. I bought mine in 1965 and I have
been reading it ever since :)

Is the airplane fully assembled?  Is the hangar roof high enough to set it upright on the firewall? We need that
pressure to form a good bond.
You will need a come along from Harbor Freight or a block and tackle.

BTW plan on moving the alternator. I don't think it will fit under the Tango cowl.
