Can you tig weld? No plans but I can send you tubing lengths for our universal mount.
Here is a universal mount on a Tango. The universal mount eliminates the need for a
welding jig.

Paul, What happened to the robo welder? Maybe he wasn't on list for that. Might be
easier to do them a batch job of bd4 mounts. C Smith I still have it. That is an option
to welding it yourself.
Ben, Craig is referring to a machine I built to weld fittings on the end of 4130 motor
mount one inch round tube members automatically. It only works for the round tubes.
There are two one inch square tube ends in each mount that must be welded by hand. My
part time welder can do that for a small charge but any person that tig weld can do
that rather easily. Here are some pictures.

Ben and John, Here's my BD-4 with Renisis engine mount. I had it made by Jerry Hey, and
unfortunately the air-frame side wasn't exactly like the plans and the mount didn't
line up. I had to cut off the upper arms and make an elaborate jig to capture the holes
and angles. It took a few tries but I got it to fit. I'm still trying to decide on a
cooling system and exhaust arrangement, that can be upgraded to a turbo in the future.

Sorry to hear that Kevin. Jerry did not always get it right. That was one incentive for
developing the universal mount that is adjustable to fit.
The tunning is for rather low RPM based on the looks of the intake runners.

IMHO Jim Bede was genus aircraft designer. He does however do certain things
differently. The motor mount hard points on the firewall are an example that may have
to be modified.
If you have not drilled the 3/8th holes yet we are home free. If you have they may be
too close to the wall of the tube to accommodate the rod ends of the universal motor
mount.
In any event an adapter can be welded up. By me or otherwise.

Greetings Paul,
I will receive my plans next Friday for the BD-4. You know i have researched quite a
few aircraft and built a Bearhawk LSA fuselage. I traded that fuse for a 200hr SMOH
Franklin 90HP (4ac-199). Upon disassembly the crank journals are scored. Turning, .010
bearings, lightspeed mag, rings gasket set, were priced and considered.
What a joke. The price for the Franklin overhaul will buy a (nearly) Renesis crate
short block. I am interested in the universal mount, the massive aluminum plate for the
front mount. The rod ends are a very good idea. Will be following along, thanks for
your answers.
Compared to the BD4 the Bearhawk is a relic.

I have a set of BD4 plans so we can compare notes. I was thinking a set of 4130 tabs
bolted to the side walls of the rectangular extrusion with four 1/4 inch bolts is about
all that is required for the rod end mounts. No welding required. AC Spruce sells 2
inch wide .063 thick 4130 straps 6 feet long for $10. We can whack those off to the
right length (about 2 inches) with a friction blade. I'll do a 3D shortly.
This is what we use now for traditional simple hole hard points in the firewall.
