I am looking for a female spline that will fit the output shaft on the TC gear box. It
is 25 mm OD with 18 splines.

It is about the same OD as Tracy's spline plate but far fewer splines.

Anybody know their splines ? :)

Paul,  I would call Hayes  Mfg Co at  231-879-3372  and ask for a code 99 (special
spline or bore)  jaw type steel  shaft coupling sized for about 40 HP. A Hytrel insert
and the metal ring external retainer. You will also need the bore and key measurements
for the E-shaft nose. george grimes

The screw in the end of the e-shaft is high torque. I'll weld a socket on the end of
the coupling shaft and connect it that way.

The spline was a press fit so I am sure it is a custom spline.

I have decided to use the gear as part of the coupling.

I want to get that gear normalized tomorrow and turn it down. If I get it up 1650 F or
so and let it cool slowly will that do it? I have a small electric oven. Less than a
cubic foot. What is the best way to let it cool. Can I just turn off the oven? Will
that cool slowly enough?

Max torque will be about 50 foot pounds at 6000 RPM What kind of mcmaster carr coupling
do you recommend?

A "Multi-Flex Shaft Couplings" looks good. 6,000 RPM but only 450 inch pounds.

On second thought I'll  never get the TC gear box and 3 rotor engine aligned well
enough to use a simple coupling. Plus they will move around slightly while running.

I am going with a double u joint shaft like this.

Paul air cooling is too fast. You might put it in a box of granulated garden lime for a
day after you get it hot. george

Now you tell me. I just paid $50 to the heat treater :)

I have decide to use AN24 SS braided hose as a coupling. Held on with shaft collars.

Much cheaper than all the other options I have looked at.

Paul Lamar

Paul,

Will the hose be able to transmit the torque?  If not, what would happen if you filled
the hose with the 500 degree RTV material you are talking about for the torsional
damper?  Maybe some fiberglass on the 45 degree bias on the inside will help transmit
the torque without twisting the hose.  Just an idea I had...

Norm

I hope so. Not much torque. Only about 40 foot pounds.

Good idea.
