I received an email today with a PDF document attached. I looks odd so I
checked on line and realized that there is a virus designed to attack
PDF documents. Simply opening the PDF document will infect your system.
 The email I received was not detected by the security measures at gmail
so be really careful.
 You may want to be careful when receiving email with PDF document
attached, especially if you are not expecting one.

Yes! Apparently it uses Javascript, which is required for form filling.

You'd have to save it as a clickable file, then double click on it, and
then it would have to be written especially for Linux, which is unlikely.

A PDF with Acrobat Javascript would give an error message if it tried to
read or write to the disk without the user's express permission.

Short answer is that you probably don't have anything to worry about
with a PDF.  There are other reasons to be careful about attachments,
including not allowing them to run if they have an executable component
unless you know exactly where they come from.  And emails that contain
downloadable attachments notify the host that yours is a valid email
address for future spam.
