I could not comprehend what I was seeing.
That is 3 million RPM in a rotary. No wonder the 2nd gen RX7 coil failed.
Yes ....3 million RPM sparking once per revolution.
10 sparks per revolution 300,000 RPM.
100 sparks per revolution 30,000 RPM.
I am building three new systems to do some more testing.
Now all we need to do is figure out how to get the coil to live.
We may have to back off on the battery voltage.

A pulse generator.
In actual operation it will be limited by the number of teeth on the
trigger wheel.
A 6" dia. #35 chain sprocket (3/8 pitch) would be limited to 30 pulses
per revolution
for a 2 rotor. About one pulse every 6 degrees of e-shaft angle.
Well under the
maximum capability of this ignition system. One ignition system per
rotor
if you use a waste spark coil. You could also use 4 ignition systems
and 4 coils.
One per plug. Highly redundant.
It would still work and be the same at 11,000 RPM.

For your coil, why not use the rotor/ stator combo from a smallish
alternator? A normal car alternator uses coils wound to produce 3ph AC.
The output is controlled by varying the magnetic field. What if you
magnetized the rotor, dropped the shaft, and attached it to the end of
the crankshaft? The rotor pictured is for a Delco alternator used in a
windmill, and this one is a permanent magnet.
I haven't tried or tested it, but it the aim is lots of power, this
could be the way to do it similar to the CD ignition systems you tried
before. These alternators are on my boat- 32 V and 80 amp, which would
be the same as 12V and 240 amp. Its all AC, and should be easily
steppable up or down.
I am going to convert my boat to 24 volt since it is a real hassle to
find 32 volt lights, bilge pumps, etc, and to do that I will have to
remove the old alternators. They are kind of big for actual use, but
might prove good for testing, but It will be after the first of the year
before I can get to it. If anyone has an old alternator like off of a
japanese car that they want to send me for Christmas, I will put it to
good use!

I don't know yet. We have a lot of testing to do.
I can say there are only three wires. +12 volts, reluctance pick up and
coil positive.
Not counting ground of course. Very easy to wire.
