There are some new ideas in the RE engine. The big hole spark plug is
closer to TDC and the lower plug is a smaller hole. Also there
appears to be CHT thermal couples next to the plugs. Another good
idea advocated on here and in my book How to Cool Your Wankel.
Page 84.


The chrome plated rotor is also good idea as less waste heat is
transfered to it by radiation. Mentioned on here years ago. We should
all chrome plate our rotors :)

Paul,

I thought all that chrome was too make it look better for display purposes...if not I'd imagine it's some sort of hard chrome, like the type used on gun parts and in gun barrels...which would be awesome..

The steel rotor housings in the 13B and RX8 engines are already chrome plated.
Just another way to slow the heat loss.

You cannot  use it on the rotor housing because the wear characteristics
are not compatible with the apex seals therefore its not going to help
much as the rotor housing is the main heat transfer device. (2/3rds). On the
rotor you risk having it come off and destroy the rotor housing wear surface.
I just don't think it is worth the risk. Perhaps a chrome plated rotor
might cut down the radiated combustion heat transfer to the rotor and
thence to the oil. Probably less risky than a ceramic coating
as the rotor housing is already chrome plated and it rarely
comes off unless the apex seal goes south.
