Here are some pictures of the pseudo Mustang that crashed. It had an
in flight fire. Pilot got it down and escaped without injury.
Airplane pretty well destroyed.
Engine mount looks familiar.

I can see how the rotary exhaust would burn right through that
manifold in short order. No such things as a 3 inch radius bends.
What was he thinking?
I wish I saw it before he crashed it.

Paul,
As usual this is desperately sad. I also am finding very high Egt's
around 1850 degrees. Everything is a compromise and my compromise
was to accept an "ugly" under fuse exhaust system to get the heat out
of the engine bay as quickly as possible. Spoke to a rotary racer re
the high EGT and he said that in racing he has the spark advance up
to 42 degrees BTDC. He advised that 30 plus degrees is normal in high
power. I do not know what Tracy's ECU does in this regard, but it
may be not advancing far enough which would have a big effect on EGT.
A rotary in OZ has just been dismantled to be P ported after 400
hours running with a Microtech ECU (and no EGT probes) and found the
motor as new. Naturally he has no idea what the EGT gets to,
ignorance is obviously bliss, but he says that the advance always
goes to at least 30 degrees BTDC. I just wish that he had an EGT to
compare, so I am back to guessing. He also has an external exhaust
system. The exhaust pipe on the Mustang looks very small like only
2.5 inches or less. May be wrong, but regardless the High EGT's is
something that has to be addressed. I just wish I had simple answers
like everyone else. Neil.
Not to worry Mate I'll take a look this afternoon with out the local
media :)
You can get some steel brake line and weld a foot or two to the
exhaust pipe at the port and connect up a water manometer to measure
the back pressure from your current muffler.
We will also check and see if you get these photos.
