Does anybody have a spare they are willing to sell. Perhaps you
replaced it with one of Jeff's fine plates.
Paul Lamar
Paul, I think I have one here, just have to check if I left it at
another blokes place, Will advise. Neil.
Thanks Neal. How much?
Jeff and Mike, hold off on the new plate to see if Neal finds his.
It will work for a pusher.
All it needs is a small addition of 1/2 inch plate tig welded on for
pusher use.
Paul Lamar
Paul, I cannot find it here, but I;m positive it is still attached to
the motor I bought. That is now in Sydney and I wont see that for at
least 2 weeks. How much of a rush are you in?? Price I really
haven't a clue. Neil.
I would probably take two weeks to get one made so that is OK.
Take a guess on the price.
BTW did you get the gears?
Paul Lamar
Paul, Look at a guess $300 plus freight open to negotiation. Yes the
gear arrived and now have a design finalised. Currently doing the rounds of
workshops with CNC machinery and cannot believe the greed. One bloke
wanted
$6000 just to do the prop shaft and the housing alone! Apparently he has
enough work already . The third bloke looks hopeful; but not really sure
until I go back for further discussions. I am becoming so incensed with
the
attitude of these people that I am currently looking at buying a small CNC
lathe myself. Even at my age I can still learn things, especially about
people
Neil.
I took a course a few years ago in G code programming for NC machines.
I might be able to help. Rather than hog the gear case out of a solid
block of aluminum look into buying short sections of thick wall aluminum
tube and welding them together. A lot of tubing suppliers will cut
it as short as a few inches for no cost.
They will also cut bar as thin as 3/8th or 1/2 inch for bulkheads.
I will even get my ace tig welder to weld it for you at the
school where he teaches. It must be pre heated in an oven to 500 F
when welding thick sections like that. A kitchen oven will work
for that but you need a real high current tig welding machine.
My guess is 500 amps or more.
Then you can turn it to the final dimensions in your lathe.
Let me know if you want to do that
as I can send it PP it to you.
BTW a self cleaning kitchen oven will get hot enough
to normalize aluminum.
Paul Lamar
Paul,
Just back after the weekend away, and now ready to do battle
with machine shops, or order my own small CNC lathe. Really I have
everything else. I have a big lathe, I have an oven that I used when I took
out the world record of Paddock to plate. That was when I had to convert a
standing crop of wheat into a bakers dozen of 1 Lbs. loaves. To do that
part of the work was to manufacture a bakers oven that would heat to over
500 degrees. Pictured. So will come back to you if I get bogged in blood
suckers.
Thanks
Neil.
