In the CFD animation (anim_roto3.gif) it shows an offset
chamber/depresion in the rotor face. It reminds me of a NACA scoop.
This is suppose to create more torque during the expansion cycle. I
know this idea has been discussed but don't recall the merits.
Are you aware if anyone has tested this concept? Are you aware of
any testing Mazda may have done on offset combustion chamber in the
rotary engine?
Erik
Yes Mazda did some work on that as well as some others.

BTW what does the crown in the apex seals have to do with early
ocean navigation?

Hi!: this is a subject I like; attached please find an article in
German by Reiner Nikulski, from the Wankel Club, about the results of
the Hercules W-2000 motorcycle Sachs KC-27 with the Norton high CR,
LDR recess rotor, plus English translation of it, previously send,
and also the references for SAE papers about combustion in RCEs, hope
it's useful for somebody. Have a good weekend. Best regards.

Development', C Jones, C-W. Points that gas leaks occur mainly in the
corner of apex seals, and for this, 3-piece seals may be better, the
problem previously discussed by P Lamar remains, differential wearing
of seal parts making possible that a seal piece enters working
chamber after some 200'000 miles

Sorry, it seems that I forgot adding the English translation of
