This is sort of like mounting a distributor on the end of the
e-shaft. Rotaries are notorious for a bit of run out on the nose end
of the e-shaft. Especially the 3 rotor. This ignition trigger
mechanism does not care. It runs off a bearing on the end of the
e-shaft so no matter what the e-shaft does the distance of the sensor
from the magnet will always be the same.
I could easily get a patent on this but one patent per week is enough
:)

Are you going to kit these out when you're finished with
development? C. Smith
Yes.
BTW I have been busting my ass making four ignition systems and the
potting compound destroyed two by overheating. Exotherm. Ruined the
test this coming weekend.
Anybody have any suggesting for good potting compound?

Paul, Did hear of a fiberglass resin that takes 6 hours to go off
and is used for making fibreglass landing legs. because the legs are
so thick you have to use this resin to give time to work it through
the fibre and it must not heat as well. First I have heard of it. May
do what you are trying to do???
Neil.
Sounds about right. There seems to be a trade off with thick
sections and cure time.

Paul,
Not sure what you are using. But TV FBT uses specific epoxy resin.
This one I found claimed a fast curing time of 5 hours. It needs to
be UL approved non-flammable.
Also, I think the process is vacuum casting. Not sure why it is
needed. Just remember in the old days that we have a batch of bad FBT
that burns out at customer site in about 3 days to a week. Traced
back to improper epoxy mixing at the Japanese factory.
May be you need to find the right resin for your application. Here
is just one link I found. I am sure there are US suppliers for
similar product.

Hope this information is useful, and the resulting Transformer
robust.

Excellent Henry. Just what I am looking for. I hope they can ship to
the states and it is not too costly. So far potting is the single
largest cost. 5 Hours is about right.

If heat is the issue, maybe you could reduce the heat by adding potting
in stages.
