Hi,

I have not been able to find an input drive shaft from a manual transmission for less than $500.

We can buy 4140 spline shafting for a few bucks a foot.

Have located a broacher to use an RX8 clutch plate drive center and re-broacher it.

Prior to re-broaching the drive center must be annealed to RC 25.

But since we do not know the existing material, the question of the day is how does one determine the material and heat treat necessary to return the drive center to its present RC hardness after re-broaching it? Please help!

Send 4130 or 4140 or 4340  out to a heat treater and ask for Rockwell 60.
