I got to test a $39,00 Volt. It loses one mile of electric range
every mile driven on the freeway at 80 MPH. At 90 MPH it loses
about 2 milesof range per spurt. That means if you are on a 2 lane road
and need to pass you could deplete the battery in short order.
Fully charged the electric range is about 30 miles.
It takes 10 to 12 hours to recharge the battery.

Initial acceleration on the battery was good.

It runs on the 1.4 L piston engine when the battery is dead but
the acceleration is barely noticeable :) It weighs 3900 pounds empty.
About what one would expect with a 4200 pound car with a 1.4 L
engine. Forget passing on a 2 lane road.

GM did a good job of engineering itforced to use the silly
range extender concept :) Might make a good taxi cab.
