Paul: I fly a gyroplane that originally had a Rotax 52 horsepower 503. That machine weighed 340 pounds with a 25 foot diameter rotor blade. I now have on it a Yamaha Genesis four stroke snowmobile engine that's 120 power and its way more power than a single place gyro needs.
Most single place gyros fly with 2 stroke engines that are between 50 and 65 hp.
Steve McGowan of Georgia flies a two place tandem gyroplane powered by the Mazda 12A that he uses for CFI training.

I know.
I shot this you tube video of Steve's 12A powered gyro in 2010.
