I do not know if you remember a year or two ago we had a discussion
going and I wrote a post about the early JTCC Mazda cars propped
their hood open about one inch and then put a plexiglass air dam on
the hood to extract hot air. I finally found a photo of a RX2 so
equipped. It is number 26 in the photo. You can not see the plexi
clearly, but the mount on the hood is. Also a bit of the middle car
is blocked by the plastic.

Paul we have had a lot of success from venting the hood on our race
car and allowing the rad heat to be pulled up and over tghe hood it
lowered the engine temp from 220 to 180 degrees as well the rotary
engine oil temp can also be improved by increasing the amout of oil
in the engine as well as additional oil coolers.. oil temp dropped
40 degrees too..it is also possible to bolt on a set of horizontal
fins on the side of the spark plug area of the rotor housing and
allow air to pass over them... as well I have built some cermet
coated engines using it on the rotor housings as well as the
irons..the temps were lowered by the cermet run about have way on the
temp gauge

Years ago the Vauxhaul DTV cars had a "droop 'snoot" homologated
something like the Charger Daytona cars. It was installed on some
Firenza street cars and the DTV race cars. It sloped down at about
45 degrees. One of the racers in Edmonton brought one back from
England as cabin baggage. He had previously had a bit of an over
heating problem. After installing the front he did as the DTV team did
and cut four triangle holes in the hood about 3" back from the front.
The low pressure area just behind the angle of the front sucked the
hot air out and helped front down force. Then he had trouble keeping
it warm enough.
