I'm looking @ getting a new laptop/tablet for graphics, images and such.
Anyone one here have any experience w/the equipment in the title?

Not me. I avoid Microsoft like the plague :-)
The software is proprietary. If your lap top breaks it is
highly likely that you will have to buy a new OS from
Microsoft to fix it.  Linux is always free for the download.

I keep an old Windows 7 around to
run one or two programs that only run on windows.

Android is a good tablet OS.

I do all my email on Linux and just about everything else
for the last 17 years. With 500,000 files the command
line search in Linux is instantaneous.

This may be anecdotal, but whether the Surface is a good fit for you depends on what you plan to do with it. I am attending University of Colorado currently and I have classmates that use them and love them. I checked them out pretty thoroughly because I liked the concept and decided against it and went for a laptop to supplement my high performance Hal 9000 desktop. My decision and your mileage may vary, is that, the Surface was too expensive and more importantly wouldn't do the stuff I wanted it to.

If you want to do photo editing at a low rate, such as crop, re-size, remove red eye etc. for personal use, it should do just fine. If you want to do serious batch editing and involved work like what is performed in Photoshop and the like, it doesn't have the resources: processor, GPU, or RAM. However, the people that have them and use them for the intended light work really seem to like them.They provide a lot of features that other devices don't have. It's a lightweight real computer with good battery life that can be used as a tablet. If you just email, watch Netflix, read e-books and take notes with it, you'll probably like it. Just make sure you are not trying to tow the family 20 foot camper with a GEO Metro. What I'm trying to say is evaluate your anticipated needs and if you can live with Windows 10, you might really like it. Otherwise, possibly a touchscreen laptop with the latest processor, max RAM and a better GPU or even a desktop/touchscreen that you can easily upgrade/update with a supplementing tablet or even Ipad may be more up your alley...
