I have the opportunity to buy Ian Beadle’s old Ross Aero redrive. I spoke to Ian about it and he said it worked fine before he crashed the plane.
It still has the 4 planetary assy which was OK with the old 13b engine but he thinks that I would need a 6 planet model for my RX8 engine. This is no problem as I have a new 6 planet from Slaussons from years ago. I think the Ross will take the 6 planet OK and I can upgrade bearings, seals etc when I change out the planetary. It has gearbox lubrication from the engine oil pump.
Do you have any comments, recommendations, ideas on using this gearbox?

Well if it is the 2.17:1 verson it rotates in the wrong direction. It can be converted with
out too much trouble to a 3.17:1 and rotate in the correct and same direction
as the engine. Basically you fix the ring gear and take power out of
the planet carrier.

To take it apart you need to drill the pins out of the prop flange.

I would replace the pins with extended point set screws .
Or just add a few.

It can also be upgraded to six pinions while you are at it.

Ian probably already added the required sun gear thrust bearing.

What is Ian up too? Is he getting too old to fly :-)
