It is absolutely the best to mix 2 cycle oil with the fuel as it gets
 better distributed in the engine. 2 cycle oil has no affect on smog
 because it burns cleanly.

 Can you recommend a specific brand and/or type of 2 stroke oil? Most
 companies offer several grades, e.g., Redline, and it's difficult to
 tease this out of the various RX-7/RX-8 forums.

I've used the Valvoline 2 cycle TC-W3 (the bottle's neck is a bit longer
than others, easier to pour) and Maxima 927 is
 awesome and adds a nice touch of sweetness to your exhaust! But over-all
any TC-W3 will get you by.

In New Zealand we are able to get Castrol 2T Racing fully synthetic.
I have been using it in my Rotax 503 for 3 years the previous owner used it
for many more, I am plugs down and the engine may not be used for some weeks
at a time, I have never had a problem with plug fouling.
