We had the waste gate controller disconnected from the manifold pressure
in the Motec software.
This Motec stuff is so complicated and there is no good book
on it. There is a real NEED!!!!!!! FOR A MOTEC BOOK.
I am kind of surprised. I guess they wanted to make sure you hire
one of their $75 an hour dealers.
This is a 68 inch prop 50 pitch so it went to 6000 static at 55 inches of Hg
We are really getting there now.
More data shortly with the big prop.
Imagine the 1.25 open hole is still in the exhaust manifold.
The noise is amazingly painful. Even with a turbo charger.
Even with ear muffs. You have to press the ear muffs to your head
and it still HURTS!!!!!!.
No wonder my hearing is shot :-)

Congrats TTC Team, glad your moving down the home stretch...

Here is the big prop data. We are seeing 36 inches of HG at 40% throttle.
We need to run this test configuration over at 100% throttle.
What is amazing is the water cooling system. The engine is barely getting
over body temperature :-) I am beginning to think I over designed it.
This is the "hot" water out of the block. We may not need the spray bar.
Dan,
The smoke is coming from an oil leak on the turbo not in the turbo.
There are two nyloc nuts holding the oil feed fitting to
the top of the turbo shaft housing. Pete found one very loose.
All metal lock nuts of course :-)

Guys,
If you are looking for something simpler than the MoTeC, (which is a
great ems but complicated), I would suggest looking at SDSEFI.COM
<http://SDSEFI.COM> <http://SDSEFI.COM>. Simple Digital Systems has some
straightforward ems systems that work. And he speaks airplane. He did
the EMS that was used on the Sport Class winning Questar Venture at Reno
a couple years ago. Met Ross the owner there and he is a practical guy.
The results speak for themselves. His stuff is also about half that of
the MoTeC. Ross says more than half of his business these days is for
experimental aircraft. No knock on the MoTeC, just that there are other
alternatives.

I want something simple to program and in the public domain.
Mega Squirt went off the deep end when they converted to C.
One of the hardest languages to program. Assembly language is
easier.
The answer is BASIC .
Anybody can learn to program in BASIC. Recent Maximite versions
are optimized for machine control.
It is English and not @$%^&*(){} [] hieroglyphics
C was invented in the late 60's and early 70's to work with teletype
machines.
One could use their cell phone and voice recognition to program in BASIC.

Paul that's fine if you are computer literate. Many folks are not. If
someone wants a simplified engine management system it doesn't
immediately follow that they want to work on something at the board
level. I use SolidWorks every day, but I have no desire to change the code.
The SDSEFI system is simple easy to program using a stand alone box. You
don't even need to have a computer. On the other hand they can equip
your ems with 8 channel data logging if you want that ties into your
laptop. I am impressed with the level of sophistication you guys have
built into the TTC engine. But if you are confused by it, (the MoTeC),
put yourself in the eyes of a non computer geek. The decent mechanic on
the street will be a complete non-starter. I was the VP of EAA Chapter
663 in Livermore CA.
Probably a third of our members worked at Laurence Livermore Labs. We
got to a point where someone stood up one day and honestly asked, "Is
this an EAA Chapter or a computer club? Cos I'm working on an airplane".
The point is when you are as tightly focused as you can be you can
forget that most folks are just not that capable. Some are, and you will
play off each other, often to the benefit of all the rest of us. Most
people would like to be able to buy some components and assemble them.
The need for a good gear reduction is a perfect example. We know how to
do it but few are up to the design and development of one.

Some do and some don't. The vast majority do not cover aircraft use.
Nor do they have an engine EFIS.
One could learn BASIC in five minutes. A lot easier than a smart phone :-)
When you have a bunch of people looking at the source great things happen.
It is also real easy to share mixture maps over the Internet.
Mixture maps are shared as simple text files
It is also real easy to tune it on any PC anywhere in the world. Not all
after market
stuff has that option including Motec.
Millions of programmer around the world look at Linux source code every day.
That is why it is used by Apple and Android.
I seriously don't think I could run this news letter on Windows.
BTW I don't want to just hear about these EFI things. If you want me to
look at it send me all the documentation in pdf form or the web site address
where I can download it.. There are tons of docs on the Motec web site.
