I was reading on the EPS Graflight 8 engine and noted the CGI (Compacted
Graphite Iron) process to produce their weight reduction for the
Aviation 350+ HP Diesel Engine they are developing.

Upon reading some articles listed below, it appears that Wankel Engine
Rotors and Housings could  be made with this material, for improved Heat
control and Weight reduction in the Wankel 3 or 4 Rotor Engines.  As I
read it the machining of parts in addition to design deliver weight
reduction to the engine.

The heat aspect of using CGI factors in using iron vs aluminum, going
back and engineering the components of the Wankel with CGI material may
deliver the solution to heat and weight to both the Rotor's and
Housings. In the news letter I read that rotor weight reduction opens
greater horsepower production opportunities.

The problem is single stage PSRU planets appear to be limited to 3:1. So
we are at the practical
limit of RPM.

There are other materials, ADI (Austempered Ductile Iron) for one. 80% the weight of steel, much cheaper, etc.
