Quite challenging squeezing it all in.
The high power rotaries tend to have bulky
intake systems. The only cooling under the
cowl is the inter-cooler. The water and oil cooling are
going in the back fuse,
I built a 2 rotor turbo with a similar set up.

If we can run methanol at Reno (and some say we can) then we can
do away with the inter cooler. That gives me more room on the
right side of the cowl for a cooling system. 1400 HP
stuffed into a legacy cowl
I spoke with a highly experienced Lancair Reno racer and he had a few
suggestions.
Due to the small diameter of the aft fuse there is a tail flutter problem.
The torsional stiffness of a tube is proportional to the diameter to the
fourth power.
2 feet would then be 16. The Glasair fuse is more like 3 feet or 81 or
FIVE TIMES STIFFER!!!
Consequently one must wrap carbon fiber around the rear fuse on the Lancair
to stiffen it up.
The other draw back is used legacy's are going for about $200K. A little
rich for my
blood. Glasair retracts are half that.
The other thing I talked to him about was engines. These guys just don't
get it!
They have no idea of how robust a rotary is. They think they know all there
is to know about piston engines but when you ask how many G's a piston
experiences when it stops at the top of the bore they have no idea.
I get angry talking to them some times. If they had some brains they
would educate themselves on the rotary and physics in general.
These Reno piston engines frequently don't make it through a Reno weekend.
There goes $50,000 (or much more) out the door. These engines totally
destroy themselves
in the hand grenade mode.
I would never in a million years attempt to design this without Rhino 3D.

Hi Paul,
when we turbocharge the induction, is it still a good idea to use tuned
inlet length,
or does the turbo change all that?

It still functions. You get more boost over and above what the turbo is
doing.
The 3rd gen RX7 and stock 3 rotor was tuned and turboed however they
were not high power in the sense of the TTC engine. The 3rd gen
was only 280 HP and the stock 3 rotor was only 350 HP.
