I found an automatic transmission shop in Santa Paula. in an out of
the way location with a large facility.

The owner is a rotor head but he does not know how to get an early
top of the line RX8 started. Apparently the previous owner did not
get the computer re-flashed by the local Mazda dealer.

This is so typical all over the country. Cars and engines can be had
for a song because the mechanic does not know how to diagnose
problems.

A perfectly good 2nd gen RX7 Turbo II convertible was given to me. a
few years ago. Not just the engine the whole car.

The owner tried for a year or two to get it fixed with different
mechanics in an out lying town. I took the intake system off and
found a crack in the rubber intake system elbow buried down among the
anti smog junk.

Back to the  SZP auto tranny shop. The owner was so happy to find me.
This is a top of the line early RX8 in perfect condition with only
100K on it.

The other things he has is at least a hundred planets out of all
sorts of different auto transmissions.

I found one that is double reduction out of some transmission we have
not identified so far. This means we now have a source of 4:1 planets
and can up the RPM  to  10,000 RPM. Anybody for a normally aspirated
300 HP P-port that would weigh as little as 200 pounds with gear
box..

There is a lot of meat on it that needs to be cut off in a lathe and
a mill.

There are 4 pairs of 2 planets each. The planet pairs talk (mesh) to
each other. There are two different diameters in each pair. That
gives the additionally reduction over 3:1.

Probably not strong enough for a highly pumped up rotary. We don't
know for sure until we try one. It will work for an NA engine.

The good news keeps coming :-)

Does it accomplish extra reduction or rotation reversal?

Dale Davies

Both.
Probably  rotation reversal so we would need to take power out
of the ring gear instead of the planet carrier.
