The owner is a rotor head but he does not know how to get an early
top of the line RX8 started. Apparently the previous owner did not
get the computer re-flashed by the local Mazda dealer.

All car computers have the same kind of memory that is in a USB stick or SD card.
It remembers with out power (voltage). It can be reprogrammed  just like
one can edit a USB stick. It can also record data so if you get in a crash
the police can find out how fast you were going before the crash.

The EFI software is stored in that type of memory so it can be re written
to up grade or fix bugs in the program.  You take the car into a dealer
and he can reprogram it. They call it flash memory so he is re-flashing
the program.


Tracy's computer did not use that kind of memory as I recall.
If it did Tracy did not tell us about it.

The Maximite stores all programs and data on the 32 gig SD card so
it is a piece of cake to fix bugs and upgrade the program.


Another benefit of doing your own program.

Some recent PC's also do this for the BIOS. You connect your
computer to the Internet and the computer company reads
all your personal data and then it upgrades the BIOS :-)
It then sells your personal data to the government and or
to marketing companies :-)

Best to put all your personal data on a USB stick and remove
the stick before you connect your computer to the Internet.
USB hard drives work the same way and they are available
up to 3 Tera bytes.  AKA 3,000 Gig.


It is the modern way of doing things :-)
