 I don't think so. 300 inch pounds (25 ft pounds) is peanuts. The
 stuff we are using now is 650 ft pounds.

 The largest of these planetary gears are listed at 4783 lbs/in. If
 my calculations are correct?? 4783/12 = 398 lbs/ft,
 398X7500=2985000, 2985000/5252= 568.3hp? The weight of this unit is
 listed @ 2420gms or 5.32Lbs Not enough for the TTC aircraft but ok
 for some of us. As these units are off the shelf and brand new they
 would be ideal for production PSRU's if they stack up. My single
 rotor all alli engine is progressing well I am seriously considering
 a planetary box over a belt drive PSRU. We are able to get sand
 castings done in Tauranga to a high standard at a very reasonable
 cost, your thoughts would be appreciated.

The Ford 650 ft pound gears we are using now are mass produced in the millions
by a totally automated factory.  They are off the shelf big time :-)
There hundreds of auto transmission repair shops in the US that have piles
of perfectly good used ones. BTW these gears are used in pick up trucks.
Pick up trucks out sell cars in many cases in the US.

The price is ridiculous low and they have been proven since 1973
when the early versions were flown in a rotary powered Mooney.
Since that time hundreds have flown in a wide variety of home
built aircraft.

Do you really want to trust your life to an unproven design?

I would not be a bit surprised if Lycoming used them
in their geared air cooled aircraft engines. They looks suspiciously  like
the same gears. I know the hydraulic lifters in a Lycoming aircraft engines are Cadillac.

I guarantee the price of these Ford gears are lower than anything else
close to the torque capacity.


BTW I ran across some air craft piston engine failure pictures while I was looking
for the picture of the Lyc GITSO.

Here they are.
Some people think the rotary can blow up. They NEVER EVER BLOW UP like
this :-)
