Subject: Stuck In Park

I worked at a local place that sold RV trailers, installed truck
accessories and rented utility trailers. I argued with him numerous
times about inspecting trailers when they came back from rental to
ensure they were good to go next time. He wanted to not put out the
money until he knew he would have income from it. Once he took a
week off and we went through the trailers. The next bunch of rentals
went well as just hook up and verify lights. One vehicle the truck
wiring was screwed up. Anyway that business may go broke over the
winter due to passing off too many customers.

We have been delayed yet another day. We are not scheduled to tow it
up until Thursday the 6th.

Dale, can you find something out about that Ram ProMaster 1500 stuck
in park problem? I'll send some pictures later this morning.

Paul,

Not sure if this applies to your stuck in park problem, but I have seen
on several different makes of vehicle the inability to get out of park
because the driver rarely set the parking brake which left the vehicles
weight on the pin that locks the transmission in park. Eventually the
hole gets elongated or ovalized and begins to stick. I've seen some
where if you rocked the vehicle while someone tried to shift you could
get it out and others that required a tow truck to pull the weight off
the pin. It's generally more difficult if the vehicle is on a slope.

Thanks Rob.

We tried that. No luck.

This green lever supposedly gets you into reverse.

Paul Lamar

Paul,
It may be related to the trailer plug electrical issues. You require a brake pedal activated circuit to unlock a gate to allow movement out of park position in many auto transmission vehicals. You should hear a click when brake pedal depressed (key on, engine off).

I went to the dealer this morning and I had to show them the Green Lever.
The instrument panel is un-plugged for some strange reason now.
No tach, MPH, or gallons.

I think it is definitely the brake switch problem we caused by connecting
the trailer brake controller.

I tried to buy a shop manual in the parts department. They are no longer
printed and the mechanics use a smart phone or notebook computer
to access it. They would not let me access it or download it.
It is a really bad dealership!! It is called Crown Dodge in Ventura.

Paul Lamar

They have a tech computer. They can probably access it with smart phone or iPad so they do not need to leave their bay. Very difficult to get information anymore. Bring it into them and get a $500 bill minimum. Local Chrysler dealer in Whitecourt, Alberta puts $100 on your bill as soon as you sign the work order authorizing them to work on your vehicle just to make sure they make a profit. I would be surprised if ALL dealers are any different.

Looks like the grn/WHT wire is the one used. It is on one end of the plug above the brake pedal. When did the gauges fail?
Dale Davies

The tow truck driver was sticking screw drivers in every hole he could find so he
may have pulled the plug. It is just a friction fit.

I checked with a friend that owns an Auto TX shop and he pays $1800 a year
for computer  info on all vehicles. Nobody wants you fixing your own vehicle :-)

Probably the F@#$% stupid liberal gov probably has their filthy hands in this.

hard and pay taxes so we have more money to spend on  the other half of the
population." :-)

Check the Multifunction Switch for brake control in , and out. The MF switch can burn out if the taillights get shorted ! Likely no fuse between
that circuit.
