Not a good video. Lots of reasons for that. However we have three
GoPros on the air plane. One in the cockpit, one of top of the tail
and one on the left wing tip looking at the cockpit. We should get
some better footage from those.

Dan ran the engine for eight  or ten seconds at 57% throttle 7,938
RPM and 60 inches of HG. He also had it up to 8000 feet. Here is the
Motec data sheet.

The cooing system is still working amazing well. I did not expect
that. Perhaps I only need 2/3rd of it. I know we could probably do
away with the oil cooler entirely. However this test tested the oil
cooler to the max and the oil never got above  102 deg F.

EGT's were normal at 1500 to 1700 deg F and the water injection is
keeping the intake manifold air temperature down to 167 deg F.

Paul,

Any idea how much HP was put out in test run ?  How was the noise for
the pilot, did he have ear protectors or is the cockpit damping noise
?

Sounds like you over built cooling, but its great to see what the top
end of cooling can be accomplished, maybe never would have gone that
far if not done out of the gate.

George F. Curtis Jr.

Well the HP is getting up there. My guess is at least 500 HP. 70
inches is at least two atmospheres. so 250 HP is common for a p-port
 normally aspirated.

The pilot has earphones. We have measured 120 db on the ground. You
can hear it a long ways off. My guess is 2 or 3 miles. Maybe even 5
miles. My hearing is bad and I could hear it all the time he was in
the air. Dan stayed in the airport vicinity.

Paul,

Perhaps I'd forgotten what rpm you planned on doing the TTC at,
but.. If the engine was already at 8,000 rpm at only just over half
throttle..  is there enough prop left to hold the engine back..?
Exciting either way..!!! :)

Very good question.

The prop is a fixed pitch climb prop so that aircraft is not near
top speed. I suspect it is under more load in a climb condition. He
was flying strait and level at the time. I specifically asked Dan
about that when he told me he reached 8000 RPM.

It still surprises me that the average builder only achieves 250-300hp w/an NA 13B-PP..(and seems its usually closer to 250hp than it is 300hp..)

Mazda got 900hp out their NA R26B!
That's 225hp PER ROTOR. Of course they detuned it to 690hp for reliability/endurance for the Le Mans win..But that's still 172.5hp PER ROTOR.. = 345hp w/their tuning + equip.. etc, etc..
