I met with a friend, Gerhard, originally from Germany and studied automotive engineering. His dad worked for Mercedes as a design engineer for many years. Since immigrating to the US he is in a completely different field (LED Lighting)

He mentioned that Mercedes did a tremendous amount of optimization on the Wankel rotor design in the 1960's and deviated from the rotor chamber that Mazda settled on. The prototype the Rotary engine was installed on is the C111 and the engine code name was DB M950 KE409. Fantastic looking car reminiscent of the FORD Mustang Mach 1 design (but with gull-wings) from that same period

I tried searching for a picture of the rotor and could not find any. As a prototype that was never released, I am not surprised that nothing is published; Mercedes probably considered the modifications their "secret sauce"

By any chance, do you or any newsletter member have any information about the modifications that Mercedes implemented on that engine especially vis a vis the rotor modifications

My friend Mario Haberer Wankel AG has all the Mercedes stuff as well as complete
Mercedes engines. Next time I am in Kirchberg I'll take some more pictures.
