Hi Paul,
my RX8 engine is a six port manual and I want to change out
the flywheel for an auto flexplate and incorporate a flywheel
generator off an outboard  motor. Is the manual flywheel part
of the dynamic balance or can I just remove the flywheel and
bolt on the flexplate in its place?

You need an auto transmission counter weight.

The flex plate bolts to that.

I wonder if a flywheel generator might double as a starter motor?

It is possible. Might take a look at the one in the Preise (S?)

wings off an RV12 in minutes.
