 The engine is lost in the cowl :-)

 I think I'll put a huge muffler in there :-)

 I have some more ideas on the cooling baffles. Do away with at least
 one :-)

 That looks great  with all that room.  I think it would be ideal for
 fitting to my Barber Snark  although I would only need about 105 HP
 as that would easily allow me to exceed VNE of 140Kn. You mention
 making the body out of block of steel but what grade of steel would
 be best and what would you estimate machining cost at? If more that
 one off to be done would it not be best to rough cast the shape and
 then finish of with the NC machine centre allowing some flats for the
 heat sinks. If the price to build is low enough you would be able to
 compete in the drone market as well as small aircraft. If enough
 rotary enthusiasts go together they could form a viable engine
 company.

 Greetings, Paul For the past several months I have been searching
 the internet for all things pertaining to rotary, in an effort to
 prepare a start up business plan, producing rotaries to satisfy a
 substantial angel funder.

 The intended market is, ultralight high power motorcycles, off grid
 energy and of course aviation.

 We are seeking a highly experienced over qualified aeronautical
 engineer and mechanical/machine shop owners to negotiate coming on
 board to finalize engine physics and production processes. Initial
 single rotor Engine sizes: 5hp, 30hp, 50hp, 100hp. (Much larger
 multi rotors to follow)

 Proprietary Compound turbo exhaust energy recovery systems capturing
 kinetic and heat  energy are a paramount requirement.

 It has so far been determined that an engine based on a forged hard
 chromed chromoly ring overlaid with a carbon fiber honey comb filled
 with ceramics. Finished for strength/final shapes automatically
 wrapped in sufficient layers of carbon fiber material by high
 pressure molding technics will likely to produce a highly
 efficient,light weight affordable product. Respectfully awaiting

 You are on the bleeding edge there. You won't save a lot of weight in
 the overall product. Make the rotor housing out 4340 or 4130 and let
 it go at that. It only needs to be 1/4 inch thick roughly. Add
 aluminum heat sinks as necessary. That is a much easier R&D program
 to fine tune the thermal characteristic.

 Is Staunton Miltary Academy still in Business? Fork Union used to
 play foot ball with them. I went to Fork Union.

 4130 was the ticket. I agree air cooled works best for the 2 small
 engines. Nice kiss. A couple Aixro xr 50's with H2o/Al injection
 added will be put into a couple Kawasaki 250r's  near twice the hp
 and torque. Just for fun and a test bed for exhaust development. Just
 got air flow numbers from them this morning.

 SMA closed and now is a museum/retreat according to the signs. Thank

 For a rotor housing, would it be possible to start with a large OD
 thick wall pipe cut to approx rotor width then deform it to a rough
 housing shape using a hydraulic press?

 If that works that  would save a lot of money. Maybe heating it first
 to make it easier to form.

 Stainless and hot rolled steel are available as seamless too. OD and
 wall thickness will be determined by how closely the deforming comes
 to the desired trochoid shape. I suppose after bending that annealing
 would be required. Mazda inner circumference is 27"+/-. So about 8.5"
 tube ID.

Thank you, Robert. The undersize tube can easily be swaged down a
stretching
mandrel with the correct finish shape. Stainless takes case hardening
really easily
and does have better thermal value than 4130.

I had been thinking of a pair of D shapes slightly undersize of the upper and lower housing areas, with large bolts between the flats of the D to force them apart. Then the force of the press acting on outside middle housing sections. The dies would prevent the upper and lower sections from colapsing too much. I'm extrapolating what happens when squeezing the circumference of smaller tube in a bench vise.
