Looks like the RX9 will have a turbo charged 16B with 400 HP.

Aluminum end housing so no need to reinvent the wheel for a LSA
one rotor.

Here is the patent discussed.

Not mentioned but it might be a turbo compound hybrid.

No the 16B is a much larger engine. Mazda did that to get more torque at low
RPM. Mazda does not make their own transmissions so the 16B engine will be
more suited to off the shelf transmissions.

The 13B and RX8 engines are 2600 CC which is rather small for a 3000 pound car.
Torque is a direct function of displacement. When you nail the RX8 in sixth
gear at 55 MPH nothing happens. One must shift down to get the desired
acceleration. Back in 1973 my RX2 four passenger coupe only weighed 2000 pounds
with roughly the same size engines as the RX8 but more room inside.

The wacko liberals are responsible for the extra 1000 pounds of crash structure.
Imagine what that does to the over all fuel burned in the U.S.?
Don't get me started :-)


The 3200 CC 16B engine will have about  23% more torque.
Here are the extraordinarily wide torque curves for the RX8.
Add 23% to all these numbers for the normally aspirated 16B.
The tuned intake is essential for the RX8.

Of course the turbo adds a lot of torque.
