Do not use these fuel injectors. We had one blow apart today on the
TTC project.  There is a short section of .032 thick  aluminum
between you and a flaming death.

We are also still fighting the yellow snot built up in the aluminum
fuel lines as the result of burning Methanol. The boss will not re
plumb the fuel system in SS or rubber. He is paying the price of
ignoring that.

It is now plugging the injectors and we are on our third set. The
company that sold us our second set charged $800 for four.

You can buy the basic Bosch injector for $50  with out the adapter on
ebay. You may have to re-machine the fuel rail if you use the basic
Bosch injector as the upper O ring may be larger. The basic Bosch
2000  injectors with out the adapters are just plain great.

As long as they are not plugged :-)

We are talking about just 4 injectors controlling 650 HP on  a turbo
two rotor! Each injector will flow up to 320 pounds of fuel per
hour.

I built an injector tester using six D cell batteries, a push button
and a special injector holder to take the 150 psi injector pressure.

The yellow snot is a seal or gasket or fuel cell foam dissolving in
the fuel. Why not racing fuel or avgas?.... . Lynn E. Hanover

Not in our case. Get a jar of Methanol and put a strip of non
anodized  aluminum in it. Within hours you will see the yellow snot.

Menthanol cools the intake system air. At our 650 HP level even that
is not enough so we use water injection to keep the intake air below
the 150 F pre-ignition limit. Other wise it would be over 200 F.

What PSI are you running the fuel at for TTC ?

The standard yellow RX8 injectors take an 11mm drill bit.

They also sell the 14mm drill bit (Bosch)

150 PSI. I am not allowed to change the TTC fuel plumbing. Just fix
it :-)

Here is a system I designed and built.

I would say the repair is to replace whatever is giving the problem.
If you can not do that, it is time to walk away. If the engine quits
and the aircraft crashes, you could be held responsible.

Dale Davies

So true.

This morning he gave permission to redesign the injector mounting.

Paul Are the tanks aluminum also? Could be another source of the
yellow snot corrosion product Bill

Believe or not they are fiberglass. I am not sure which epoxy resin
was used, They tested it with Methanol or they told me they did.

Paul Lamar

Vinylester or epoxy are methanol resistant, polyester resin is not.
Methanol breaks down polyester resin. Look up what methanol did to
fiberglass built in boat fuel tanks. Bad stuff. My wheeler tanks are
integral to the wet wings, but the resin is vinylester. And I epoxy
coated it for additional insurance.

Kevin Alderman

I wonder what resin was used in Sandy McNabb's Glass Goose that had
the wings delaminate !

Steve Carlisle

Sandy (and I) used the Adtec epoxy (CR4 I think) for structure and
the integral wing tanks get Jeffco tank sealer.  Most, but not all
epoxies are alcohol resistant.  Unfortunately the standard Adtech
epoxy is not.

I have had fuel tank samples from the Glass Goose construction
soaking in both diesel and avgas for over 10 years with no apparent
ill effects.

Scott Gettings

Scott, interesting, as Sandy told me had sourced a second wing set,
at considerable cost, to replace those that failed when he installed
his fuel for testing. He was expecting to do that project this
winter. What type of fuel would cause the wing joints to fail?

Steve Carlisle

Auto gas with 10% ethanol.
