Hi Paul,
A friend of mine recently bought a single rotor 13B from
America. It is out of a quickie two, the unfortunate owner ground looped
it during a high speed taxying manoeuvre, breaking the canard. I think
it scared him. The rotary was mounted "plugs up" (why do they do it?).
It has a ross box on it and we needed to turn it thru 90 deg. It is the
first ross box I have seen that turns the same way, so while it was off
I thought I'd take a look to see how he did it. It was not good. It has
three bolts holding the planet carrier to the drive plate, all of which
were loose, VERY loose !!! I suspect they would have worked loose during
idle as the bolts go down thru these rectangular slots in the carrier
with just a thick washer on top, NO locking system at all. I shall make
up 3 stepped spacers of the correct length for the 7/16 NF bolt and wire
the heads, what do
you think ? As you can see the ring is retained by four roll pins, is
this a good idea ?
cheers Chris Hoskins.
The role pins are a good idea. They act like 4 keyways. At that radius
the load is low. This was back in the days when people were lucky to get
150 HP.

Was this the one that was on the site that sold from Lewis Bjork? There is
(you have) a lot of information on it. If so, it was the Ross 3:17
modified with the thrust bearings if that's of any help..?
