  Do not forget the Martin MARS. Still used as a water bomber in Canada,
    Virg Salisbury

 The most advanced from a hydrodynamic point of view was a
Martin P5M Marlin. Designed to take off and land in rougher water.
Very narrow hull. Lots of power, large fowler flaps  and slats would
lower the take speed.
