When you see vapor coming out of the black thing on the top of the
intake manifold it is 71 inches of Hg.
That is the pop off valve and the spring can be changed to increase
maximum boost. It is necessary to keep the turbo boost and engine
from running away to over 100 inches of Hg.

Paul, can you explain to me about the wastegate operation. If the
preset pop off limit hardware has been removed, and the cable
operated system installed in it's place, what procedure will the
pilot have for control, other than watching boost pressure, and
relieving it with the manual control?

It never had a pop off or blow off valve when we first got and tested
the engine
for almost a year. We added one recently to the intake manifold.
The waste gate is installed on the exhaust manifold. That was controlled
by a PWM air pressure valve. It was controlled (sort of) by the Motec
computer.
That was supposed to kept the waste gate closed some of the time by
applying
manifold pressure to a diaphragm. That was connected to plunger waste
gate valve
it self.
We removed that part of it and replaced it with a manual mechanism.
