Greetings all,
For those who have rebuilt a Renesis,
1 The eccentric shaft bolt (not the large nut at the flywheel end)
torque specs for determining float and final fitting, according to the
service manual is about 250 ft #s. This is over 2X the torque settings
for the standard 13-B. Any idea of why or is this a misprint.
2 Additionally Bruce Turrentine suggests using blue locktite on this
bolt, the manual--just oil.
3 When installing the oil pump, some people pack it with Vaseline, some
squirt oil in it (I guess to prime it for the first start) and some
just
leave it dry. What is the common knowledge about handling this?

I assume it is the one at the front of the e-shaft.
It could have something to do with the thrust bearing spacer.
They may have changed the exact design in the RX8.
Unlikely to be a typo as 300 N-m is 222 foot pounds.
Vaseline in the oil pump is a good idea as that will get the oil
pressure up quicker.
Flying the TTC still looks good for this after noon. My guess is 2P

Starting the oil pump dry is out of the question. STP was popular for
this as it is so sticky and stays in the pump for weeks should startup
be delayed. For race engines, the oil line to the filter is disconnected
and drooped into a clean can. The engine is spun up with the plugs
removed, on the starter until oil squirts out of the hose. The oil pump
is now primed and pumping. The hose is reconnected and the engine spun
until oil pressure is indicated on the gage. The engine is ready to run
as far as oil is concerned.
The higher torque on the front bolt makes the crank nose stiffer and
helps with belt side loads. Check end play after the bolt is fully torqued.
